Tuesday 22 October

10 am to 12.30 pm – Registration

12.30 pm to 4 pm – Landcare NSW Muster
*Afternoon tea from 2.30 pm to 3.00 pm provided by White Cliffs CWA

Do you want to have your say and help shape the future work of Landcare NSW? Then make sure you get along to the Landcare NSW Muster. This is a FREE forum for Landcare. The Muster gives grassroots Landcarers the chance to voice issues of importance to them and their communities. The Landcare NSW Muster is also an opportunity to workshop, listen and learn from others across the state. This face to face learning opportunity is extremely valuable. Landcare NSW will also present ‘You Asked We Delivered’ to update the Landcare Community on how it is working for the people.    

5:15pm to late – Welcome Adventure Function at Silverton Hotel (featuring Sara Storer)

Taking in the incredible landscape of the Broken Hill region, attendees will be taken by bus to twilight drinks and canapes at Mundi Mundi lookout and then onto Silverton Pub for dinner. ARIA award and 21 time Golden Guitar award winning artist, Sara Storer, will perform many of her hits as well as a number of her new songs. Sara will be supported by her songwriter brother, Greg Storer. Dress is casual with dancing shoes.

5: 15 pm – Muster at the Civic Centre for buses.

5:30 pm to 6 pm – Buses to Mundi Mundi lookout

6 pm to 7 pm – Drinks and finger food at Mundi Mundi

7 pm to 7:15 pm – Buses to Silverton

7:15 pm to late – Drinks, dinner and entertainment from Sara Storer at the Silverton Hotel.

First bus back to Broken Hill to depart at 9:15 pm and the final bus to depart at 11 pm.

Wednesday 23 October

8 am to 9 am – Registration

9 am to 9:45 am – Opening of the conference.
Highlighted by a Welcome to Country, a welcome from Landcare NSW and Local Land Services and a welcome to the Silver City, Broken Hill.

9:45 am to 10:15 am – Keynote presentation.
Charlie Arnott, winner of the 2018 Bob Hawke Landcare Award. Charlie practices regenerative farming, organic, biodynamic and holistic grazing principles on his 5,000 acre mixed farming property, “Hanaminno”, at Booroowa, NSW.

10:15 am to 10:45 am – Morning tea provided by the Broken Hill School of the Air.

10:45 am to 11:30 am – Presentations.

10:45 am to 11 am – Alison Osborne (Biodiversity Conservation Trust). The power of the individual in private land conservation.

11 am to 11:15 am – Andy Myers (Ocean Watch Australia). Innovation in the NSW oyster industry.

11:15 am to 11:30 am – John Leys (OEH). How much vegetation in droughts should we have to protect the land from erosion.

11:30 am to 12:15 pm – Panel session.
Featuring landholders from western NSW and a number of associated experts who offer insights in rangeland rehabilitation techniques and how these can be of value across NSW. 

12:15 pm to 1: 15 pm – Lunch provided by Cheffries Eats and Meats.

1:15 pm to 1:30 pm – Muster at buses for field trips.

1:30 pm to 4 pm Field trips with a packed afternoon tea provided by the Broken Hill School of the Air.

Field trips are:

  1. The Living Desert and Sculptures and Broken Hill Art Gallery
  2. Historic Day Dream Mine, Silverton
  3. Clevedale Station, Broken Hill
  4. Broken Hill Solar Farm and Riddiford Arboretum 

Delegates will choose which field trip they wish to attend when they register. Please note there is limited capacity with each field trip so to avoid missing out please register at your earliest convenience. 

Buses back at 4 pm.

6.30 pm – Landcare NSW Awards Gala Dinner

The gala dinner includes a three course dinner, drinks and entertainment headlined by Paul Costa. Dress is cocktail.

9:15 am to 9:30 am – Adrian Zammit (Landcare NSW). Growing and developing a state peak body for Landcare NSW.

9:30 am to 9:45 am – Hannah Rice-Hayes (North Coast Regional Landcare Network). Landcare on North Coast shakes the volunteer tree.

9:45 am to 10 am – Simon Molesworth AO QC (Broken Hill Landcare). Greening the Hill Mk 2.

10 am to 10:15 am – Ingrid Garland (National Waterbug Blitz and Envirocomm Connections). The National Waterbug Blitz.

10: 15 am to 10:30 am – Megan Rowlatt (Intrepid Landcare). How can Landcare be better seen and heard: The power story of a healthier environment.

10: 30 am to 11 am – Morning tea provided by Broken Hill CWA.

11 am to 12: 15 pm – Presentations.

11 am to 11: 15 am – Leigh McLaughlin (Landcare NSW). Understanding the political system and knowing how to educate decision makers is a basic skill for Landcare.

11:15 am to 11:30 am – Jasmine Whitten. Healthy Soils, Healthy Farms.

11:30 am to 11:45 am – Sally Hughes (Corowa District Landcare). Inspiring young landcarers to build healthy landscapes.

11:45 am to 12 pm – Simon Kilbane (Rhizome). Creating a resilient landscape: Green infrastructure through collaborative community approach.

12 pm to 12: 15 pm – Bev Debrincat (IEWF/Habitat Network). Improving linear corridors.

12:15 pm to 1:30 pm – Lunch provided by Cheffries Eats and Meats.

1:30 pm to 2: 30 pm – Presentations.

1:30 pm to 1:45 pm – Fiona Garland (Kangaroo Management Taskforce). A strategic approach to kangaroo management.

1:45 pm to 2 pm – Dr Karen Williams (Molonglo Conservation Group). Building resilience for Landcare and our landscapes in the face of an uncertain future.

2 pm to 2:15 pm – Ben Larson (Weedtechnics). Saturated stream and other weed control technologies and their role in healthy, holistic and effective Landcare Programs.

2:15 pm to 2:30 pm – Susan Orgill (NSW DPI). Grow more biomass, store more carbon.

2:30 pm to 3 pm – Afternoon tea provided by Broken Hill CWA.

3 pm to 3:30 pm – Landcare Muster feedback session.

3: 30 pm to 4 pm – Closing remarks of the conference featuring CEO of LLS, David Witherdin and CEO of Landcare NSW, Adrian Zammit.

6 pm – Optional casual dinner at The Palace Hotel (featuring Drag Queen entertainment)

Refreshments on the balcony at the iconic Palace Hotel (featured in Pricilla Queen of the Desert) will be followed by a buffet style dinner and post dinner Drag Queen entertainment featuring Shelita Buffet and Christina KneesUp.
